General Ophthalmic

As an oculoplastic surgeon and eyelid expert, my practice is dedicated to your eye health and offers expert diagnosis and management of all eye conditions.

Over half of all sight loss is preventable if caught early, so it is important to pay attention to your eyes’ health with regular eye tests and monitoring.

London-based Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic surgeon Dr Nick Koutroumanos is experienced in treating simple and complex eye conditions and recommends an eye examination at least once every two years.

Many causes of sight loss are lifestyle-influenced, and regular eye checks can indicate possible health issues such as high blood pressure or diabetes, which will require monitoring to prevent visual deterioration. This is particularly important if you have a family history of eye disease or other associated health conditions or if you have noticed a sudden, recent change in your vision.

Dr Nick Koutroumanos carries out extensive eye health checks that assess your vision thoroughly with the help of tests such as air-puff tonometry or applanation pressure test. Your assessment will be tailored to your specific needs, and Dr Nick can advise you on further diagnostic tests and provide a bespoke treatment plan if required.

General ophthalmology refers to various problems that affect the eye and vision. Seek medical advice if you’ve experienced the onset of the following changes to your eye health recently:

Red eyes are a common eye issue, typically resulting from inflammation or infection. They are often accompanied by swelling of the eyelids, discharge, and itching. An unstable tear film, also referred to as dry eye, can cause red eyes. Treatment for red eyes varies based on the cause and may involve antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, and/or eye drops.

Eye pain can arise from various issues, ranging from infections or inflammation of the eye to scratches on the eye’s surface, foreign particles, or objects. Treatment for eye pain depends on the underlying cause, and several treatment options are available.

Visual disturbances encompass a range of symptoms, including floaters, halos, flashes of light, or shadows. These can be very irritating, and although most cases do not indicate a serious condition, we advise seeking urgent medical attention to rule out serious eye problems.

Sudden sensitivity to light can be a symptom of an eye disease or infection requiring an eye examination.

Excessive tearing can indicate visual problems requiring an eye examination.

Vision loss can be temporary, short-term, or persistent, occurring suddenly or gradually. Distorted vision, where straight objects appear wavy or misshapen, or double vision can be a sign of deteriorating eye health. Dr Nick Koutroumanos will provide a comprehensive consultation and examination to pinpoint the cause and then advise you on the treatment options available based on the diagnosis and underlying reason for the vision loss.

Kind Words from Our Patients

A true perfectionist

Words are not enough to express my sincere gratitude for the care and dedication Dr Koutroumanos put into my journey. I felt safe and secure in his hands. This is someone who truly cares about outcome and ethics of practice. A true perfectionist. I would not hesitate to wholeheartedly recommend him.

100% worth it

I had surgery a few days ago with Dr Koutroumanos for congenital ptosis. It’s early days but I don’t think it’s too early to say the results will be life changing for me in terms of confidence levels. I struggled at school due to the condition and have learnt to live with it – that is until I saw the doctor who was reassuring from the start and has just done the best job. 100% worth it and amazing to know I was in such safe hands. I can’t thank him enough.

I’m really happy with my results

I’ve recently had a brow lift and blepharoplasty with Mr N Koutroumanos. The whole process from start to finish was handled professionally and each process was very informative. I’m still at the recovery stage, so far I’m really happy with my results. Highly recommend using Mr N Koutroumanos services.
